Commissioned by David Bienstock, creator of the New American Film Series at the Whitney Museum of Art to raise funds for the second season of the series. The film was projected at the end of each program and a box to receive donations was placed at the exit of the theater. Whitney Commercial ran for two or three years until the Museum agreed to sponsor the series on its own which has continued to the present season.

“SURREAL ESTATE” is a dark comedy short about a man, Mr. Smith, who attempts to rent a house and everything that can go wrong…does. It’s for anyone who has ever been to the DMV, changed checkout lines in a supermarket, or tried to navigate an automated telephone menu. It's the absurd chaos that develops in our minds as fantasy, but for Mr. Smith, it's all too real.

It is a program that observes men and women’s reaction and action in a real situation. The entertainers will reveal their real lives. They will try to see the difference and similarities between women and men.

The variety show attempts to break misleading stereotypes about men and women. Find out differences between men and women and see how our thoughts have been shaped by stereotypes while playing fun games where gender is not a factor!
